The method begins with a messaging server receiving a message from a second mobile messaging client device, which is associated with a second authorized user. The message is then stored in a database associated with the messaging server. A message presence notification is transmitted from the messaging server to a first mobile messaging client device, which is associated with the first authorized user.
Next, the messaging server receives a request from the first mobile messaging client device to retrieve the message. The request includes client authentication data, which is used to validate the first mobile messaging client device at the messaging server. Once validated, the messaging server transmits the message and a message attribute to the first mobile messaging client device. Both the message and the message attribute are stored in non-volatile memory in the first mobile messaging client device until the message is managed by the device according to the message attribute.
The method also includes the step of receiving a message management notification from the first mobile messaging client device. This notification is generated by the device after it manages the message in accordance with the message attribute.
The message attribute can include a predetermined message viewing time, after which a portion of the message cannot be displayed on the first mobile messaging client device. This predetermined viewing time can be based on either the time the second mobile messaging client device sends the message or the time the first mobile messaging client device first displays the message.
Additionally, the method allows for the messaging server to receive the message attribute from the second authorized user at the second mobile messaging client device before transmitting the message to the first mobile messaging client device. The messaging server also has the capability to delete the message from the database.
Other features of the method include a predetermined message deletion time based on the time the second mobile messaging client device sends the message, the option for the message management notification to be sent before the first mobile messaging client device manages the message, and the inclusion of a message attribute specifying the number of times the message may be accessed on the first mobile messaging client device.
