The top five companies accounted for 21% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Huawei Investment filed the most autonomous vehicles patents within the technology industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 70 autonomous vehicles-related patents in the quarter, compared with 95 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Alphabet with 42 autonomous vehicles patent filings, General Motors (32 filings), and Samsung Electronics (25 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 54% share of total patent filings
