The top five companies accounted for 17% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that HP filed the most 3D printing patents within the technology industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 38 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 40 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Seiko Epson with 28 3D printing patent filings, Ricoh (21 filings), and International Business Machines (12 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 40% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the technology industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 40%, followed by China (14%) and Japan (8%). The share represented by the US was 11% higher than the 29% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
