Notably, Computer and Mathematical Occupations jobs accounted for a 26% share of the global technology industry’s metaverse-related total new job postings in Q1 2024, up 4% over the prior quarter.
Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive metaverse-related hiring activity
Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 26%, emerged as the top metaverse-related job roles within the technology industry in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 4% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 16% in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 39% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent metaverse roles include Management Occupations with an 11% share in Q1 2024, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 9% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in technology industry accounted for 59% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2024 were Veeco Instruments, Pure Storage, Meta Platforms, Micron Technology, and Bentley Systems. Together they accounted for a combined share of 59% of all metaverse-related new jobs in the technology industry.
Veeco Instruments posted 2,107 metaverse-related new jobs in Q1 2024, Pure Storage 520 jobs, Meta Platforms 476 jobs, Micron Technology 362 jobs, and Bentley Systems 277 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 58.85% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024
The largest share of metaverse-related new job postings in the technology industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 58.85% followed by India (6.42%) and Singapore (5.76%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point higher than the 58.20% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
