Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive internet of things-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 27%, emerged as the top internet of things-related job roles within the technology industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings drop by 9% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 16% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 8% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent internet of things roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 10% share in Q2 2024, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in technology industry accounted for 31% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Renesas Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Orange, Amazon Web Services, and Super Micro Computer. Together they accounted for a combined share of 31% of all internet of things-related new jobs in the technology industry.

Renesas Electronics posted 1,821 internet of things-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Samsung Electronics 1,037 jobs, Orange 855 jobs, Amazon Web Services 802 jobs, and Super Micro Computer 645 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 37.04% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024

The largest share of internet of things-related new job postings in the technology industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 37.04% followed by India (12.50%) and France (6.30%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points higher than the 36.77% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
