US-based cloud computing company DigitalOcean is expanding its global footprint with a new data centre in Sydney, Australia. The new facility will allow DigitalOcean to better support new and existing customers that are based in or have end-users in Australia and New Zealand.
Chief executive officer Yancey Spruill commented: “With hundreds of thousands of current customers using our global network today, we’re excited to expand the breadth and capability of our infrastructure to better serve small and medium-sized business customers in Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding region.”
Australia’s cloud computing market is forecast to grow by 12.5% by 2025. Cloud spending by small and medium-sized enterprises is expected to grow slightly faster than enterprise organisations. DigitalOcean cited Sydney’s strong and growing technology business environment as the motivation behind its investment. In addition, the city’s telecommunications connectivity options, including submarine communications cables connecting directly to the US and Asia, made Sydney an ideal choice.
DigitalOcean is headquartered in New York and operates 15 data centres worldwide serving more than 600,000 customers across 185 countries.
