Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Gyeongsang National University filed the most Covid-19 patents within the technology industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 2 Covid-19-related patents in the quarter, compared with 1 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Duke University with 2 Covid-19 patent filings, Anivive Lifesciences (1 filing), and Merck (1 filing) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 74% share of total patent filings
The largest share of Covid-19 related patent filings in the technology industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 74%, followed by China (4%) and Australia (3%). The share represented by the US was 14% higher than the 60% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
