Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive internet of things-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 21%, emerged as the top internet of things-related job roles within the technology industry in Q1 2024, with new job postings drop by 18% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 15% in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 16% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent internet of things roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 9% share in Q1 2024, Sales and Related Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in technology industry accounted for 24% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2024 were Samsung Electronics, Siemens, Orange, STMicroelectronics, and Renesas Electronics. Together they accounted for a combined share of 24% of all internet of things-related new jobs in the technology industry.

Samsung Electronics posted 1,147 internet of things-related new jobs in Q1 2024, Siemens 746 jobs, Orange 736 jobs, STMicroelectronics 654 jobs, and Renesas Electronics 559 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 37.16% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

The largest share of internet of things-related new job postings in the technology industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 37.16% followed by India (12.09%) and France (9.31%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point higher than the 35.80% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
