CES 2024 in Las Vegas, was back to pre-pandemic levels with more than 4,300 exhibitors and more than 135,000 attendees.
The show brought a swathe of unique tech from EVs to AI agents to digital toothbrushes with AI, and everything in between. And as usual, there was no dearth of distinctive screen tech.
Displays, displays, everywhere at CES 2024
CES 2024 could well be called ‘The Display Show’ with multitudes of TVs, and folding, rolling, bending, and flexing displays showcased at this trade event over the years. 2024 was no different.
This year, along with foldable displays, LG and Samsung each showcased a futuristic TV with a transparent screen. LG’s transparent display is a 77-inch OLED screen, which displays data, art, and videos in transparent mode as well as enables viewers to see through the screen to look at the surroundings around the room. While watching content, the TV uses a contrast screen so that only the on-screen content is viewable.
Samsung’s transparent TV is made of micro LED displays – this display is modular and can be customized to other form factors and products, playing right into Samsung’s growth strategy for foldable consumer electronics.
These screens are high-end lifestyle products, positioned as premium décor blending into room surroundings, highlighting the idea of unobtrusive tech. LG’s transparent TV is expected to come to market in H2 2024, while there was no word on Samsung’s availability.
