Notably, Computer and Mathematical Occupations jobs accounted for a 34% share of the global technology industry’s artificial intelligence-related total new job postings in Q1 2024, up 16% over the prior quarter.

Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 34%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the technology industry in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 16% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 15% in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 20% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with an 8% share in Q1 2024, Sales and Related Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in technology industry accounted for 21% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2024 were Microsoft, ASM International, Salesforce, Accenture, and Alphabet. Together they accounted for a combined share of 21% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the technology industry.

Microsoft posted 3,290 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q1 2024, ASM International 3,161 jobs, Salesforce 2,883 jobs, Accenture 2,769 jobs, and Alphabet 2,542 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 49.41% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the technology industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 49.41% followed by India (15.36%) and the UK (3.08%). The share represented by the US was four percentage points higher than the 45.38% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
