California-based technology giant Apple has announced it will open its new corporate offices in Battersea Power Station, south London. Apple originally announced plans for its UK headquarters back in 2016, stating it would take 46,450 sq m of space and merge all of its existing offices in London. The planned headquarters were expected to have capacity for up to 3,000 staff and were scheduled to open in 2021 before plans were placed on hold due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The 17-hectare Battersea Power Station development is due to open in October 2022 and will house numerous retail stores, including Mango, Jo Malone, Ralph Lauren and Mulberry. More than 2,500 jobs will be created once the doors to the development open, with a total of 17,000 jobs once fully operational.
Apple CEO Tim Cook released a statement confirming the news, explaining: “We can’t wait to open our new offices in the iconic Battersea Power Station for so many of our team members in London early next year. It’s a tribute to this incredible city and a reflection of our commitment to Apple’s future in the UK.”
