US-based e-commerce giant Amazon has announced the opening of a new office in Saudi Arabia. It is located at Riyadh Front, a business and leisure development, and will house employees from the company’s e-commerce, payments services, internet services, advertising and smart devices divisions. Amazon launched operations in Saudi Arabia in 2017 following its acquisition of Riyadh-based online shopping website souq.com and has since recruited more than 1,400 staff across the country.
Ronaldo Mouchawar, vice-president of Amazon Middle East and North Africa, commented on the opening: “We are pleased to inaugurate our new office in the capital of the kingdom, confirming our commitment to serving Amazon customers, vendor partners and employees, as well as supporting its social and economic growth in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. We will continue to develop our investments in the kingdom across various sectors, including e-commerce, smart devices and Amazon Payment Services, among others.”
In March 2022, Amazon.sa signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Investment and the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority. The agreement aims to enhance Amazon’s presence in the local market by enabling small and medium-sized enterprises to sell their products locally and help entrepreneurs set up their logistics businesses.
