US-based e-commerce giant Amazon will open its first Irish fulfilment centre in early 2022, creating 500 new permanent jobs. The 58,530m2 facility at Baldonnell Business Park, Dublin, will provide faster delivery for customers across Ireland and the rest of Europe.
Amazon will hire across various departments for the fulfilment centre including engineering, HR, IT, health and safety, finance and operations.
The company will also open a second delivery station in the Ballycoolin area of Dublin, creating more than 20 permanent jobs. The 7,760m2 site will serve the local area and is expected to be fully operational in late 2021.
In July 2020, Amazon announced plans to create 1,000 permanent jobs in Ireland over the following two years bringing its total permanent workforce in the country to more than 5,000 people by 2022.
In a press release, Stefano Perego, vice-president of Amazon’s European fulfilment centre operations, said: “The new state-of-the-art fulfilment centre and delivery station are a further sign of our commitment to the communities in which we operate. The new teams will play a crucial role in providing faster delivery to customers across Ireland, including one-day delivery on hundreds of thousands of items.”
