Amazon has decided to discontinue its Astro for Business security robot, designed for small- and medium-sized businesses, to concentrate on developing household robots, reports Reuters.
The US company initially introduced the robot for domestic use in 2021, expanding it to various business sectors such as retail and manufacturing in November last year.
In an email, an Amazon spokesperson stated: “To accelerate our progress and ongoing research to make Astro the best in-home robot, we have made the decision to wind down support for Astro for Business.”
The Astro for Business robot, which was sold for $2,349.99, was designed to offer round-the-clock business monitoring.
However, Amazon has informed its customers that these robots will no longer be operational starting from 25 September 2024.
The company is offering a $300 credit to support customers in finding alternative workplace solutions and will refund any pre-paid Astro Secure subscription fees starting 3 July 2024.
