Databricks has released an AI analysis tool for business intelligence that can respond to prompts and create graphs.

The tool, named AI/BI, will continuously learn from inputted queries and business’ data stack to expand their knowledgebases.

AI/BI consists of two parts, a dashboard for answering conventional business intelligence queries and generating graphs out of a company’s database, alongside a conversational platform named Genie.

Genie is designed for broader queries that require reasoning.

AI/BI will be free for existing Databricks SQL Pro and Serverless customers, unlike other current BI AI tools on the market like Microsoft’s Power BI and Salesforce’s Tableau.

“A truly intelligent BI solution needs to understand the unique semantics and nuances of a business to effectively answer questions for business users,” stated Databrick’s cofounder and CEO Ali Ghodsi, who criticised existing AI analytics tools for failing to work with real-time business problems and data.

“We believe this requires a different approach than how BI software has been designed in the past — one that places an AI system at the center of the architecture and is designed to take advantage of the AI systems’ strengths as well as complementing their weaknesses to tackle the challenges of understanding and learning these nuances,” Ghodsi said.

AI/BI is already built into Databrick’s platform, making it easier for existing customers to share its generated insights without the need for new user licenses.

Research and analysis company GlobalData forecast the total AI market to be worth over $1,037bn by 2030, achieving a CAGR of 39% from 2023.
