Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive technology industry hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 24% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American technology industry in Q2 2024 , ahead of Management Occupations with a 16% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Sales and Related Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Architecture and Engineering Occupations with an 8% share and Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 6% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 14% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 14% of the overall hiring activity in the North American technology industry in Q2 2024.

Belcan posted 10,504 jobs in Q2 2024 and registered a growth of 132% over the previous quarter, followed by Peraton with 5,361 jobs and a 76% growth. Microsoft, with 4,568 jobs, and Amazon Web Services, with 4,559 jobs, recorded a 7% rise and a 24% rise, respectively, while HCL Technologies recorded a 17% decline with a 4,101 new job postings during Q2 2024.

Regional analysis of hiring in the North American technology industry, Q2 2024

The US held the leading share of the North American technology hiring activity with a 91.31% share, a 5% decrease over Q1 2024. Canada was next with 5.61%, four-percentage-point down over the previous quarter.
