UK government launches sustainable farming tech fund
UK Research and Innovation, on behalf of the UK government, has launched a fund to encourage the development of new technologies to help farmers boost food production and reduce pollution.
The challenge encourages the use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and robotics to help the sector achieve its zero emissions targets. Up to £20m in funding has been put aside to develop the farming systems of the future.
Previous government schemes awarded funding to a soft-fruit picking robot and a potato scanner that helps farmers to harvest their produce at the right time.
Chatham House hosts Climate Change Conference
The Royal Institute of International Affairs, otherwise known as Chatham House, will host its annual Climate Change Conference over the next two days.
The event will explore the global climate change landscape and ways to improve it through a number of keynote sessions. Today will feature a session on new technologies that are set to disrupt the climate landscape and the extent of their impact.

More than 800 business, politics and technology leaders will gather in Seattle, Washington, today for the GeekWire Summit, a leading tech and innovation conference.
The annual event explores the big technological trends reshaping society, and the next big things in the innovation economy. Topics covered will include everything from AI, to cybersecurity to medtech.
Speakers at this year’s conference include former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, current Microsoft president Brad Smith, Expedia Group CEO Mark Okerstrom, US Federal Trade Commissioner Rohit Chopra and former National Football League star Doug Baldwin.
