EU takes on 5G cybersecurity
Today Julian King, European Commissioner responsible for the Security Union, will make a statement regarding recommendations on 5G and cybersecurity.

The EU commission is working to address any vulnerabilities in 5G cybersecurity. In March 2019 the European Commission recommended a number of measures to ensure a high level of cybersecurity of 5G networks across the EU.
It recommended that Member States complete a risk assessment by October, and identify possible mitigating measures, by the end of the year.
The statement will take place at the European Commission in the Berlaymont Building in Brussels.

By GlobalDataIts findings make for concerning reading. According to the report, leaving the European without a deal will lead to severe disruption for businesses, with many of the UK’s most critical sectors at risk of losing their competitive edge.
This in turn, according to the report, would put jobs at risk, representing “’a sudden rupture for the closely entwined economies of the UK and the EU27”.
Furthermore, the report warns that the country cannot rely on Article XXII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), an obscure piece of trade law that no-deal supporters have argued would allow the UK to carry on trading with the EU for up to a decade without tariffs.
Extinction Rebellion protesters pressure newspapers
Climate activist group Extinction Rebellion are set to stage another protest in London today.
Dubbed ‘Requiem for a Dead Planet’, it will take place outside Northcliffe House, home to the Daily Mail, Evening Standard, Metro and the Independent, among others.
The aim of the protest is to pressure newspapers into “tell[ing] the truth about the Climate and Ecological Emergency”.
The group, which launched in 2018, brought parts of London to a standstill earlier this year. It wants the government to declare a “climate and ecological emergency”, reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025 and create a Citizens’ Assembly to solve the climate crisis.
