Yang Jiechi, the head of China’s Central Committee’s Foreign Affairs Commission, travels to Russia today to meet with the Kremlin’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

The visit will focus on strategic security talks between the two nations. This is likely to centre on the United States, with the hopes of strengthening ties amid the ongoing trade war fuelled by Trump’s taxes on foreign imports. It comes days after Beijing unveiled $16bn worth of tariffs on American-made goods.

According to reports, Jiechi will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit.

Jiechi will spend three days in Russia, returning home on Friday, 17 August.

The former communications official mutually agreed to leave the White House in December following the hiring of John Kelly as Chief of Staff, a move which left her largely surplus to requirements in the Trump administration.

Manigault-Newman, who previously appeared on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice show, breaks her silence on her time under the President, accusing him of racism and misogyny among other things.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has said that Manigault-Newman’s book is “riddled with lies and false accusations”, while Trump has branded her a “lowlife”, despite praising her following her December departure.

Manigault-Newman’s book follows Fire and Fury, an exposé published by writer Michael Wolff back in January.

The state of the labour market

The United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) will today provide an insight into the state of the labour market ahead of March’s Brexit deadline.

The report will provide the latest data on employment rates, economic activity, unemployment, average earnings, productivity and available jobs.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, some 40% of employers have struggled to fill positions as the number of people migrating to Britain from the European Union dropped.

There are fears that up to half a million jobs could be lost to Brexit, costing the economy £50bn, as previously warned by London mayor Sadiq Khan.

The report will be published on the ONS website at 9:30am BST.
