A recent study conducted by home insurer Together Mutual Insurance found that half of Britons who work from home (40%) spend their remote working hours doing personal tasks. Of that 40% those who took the survey admitted being distracted most often by the following things:
- Doing household chores: 64%
- Chatting to friends and family at home: 64%
- Running personal errands: 60%
Jon Craven, CEO of Together Mutual Insurance said: “With the average Brit working from home 13-days a year, companies are having to accommodate for this with equipment and remote-working friendly IT systems. Our findings highlighted that the average person needs £2,097 worth of technology in order to work remotely and with 40% of people claiming to get distracted during work hours, it begs the question as to how beneficial remote working is for British businesses.”
Dressing for working from home:
The same study also found that 53% of men and 61% of women in Britain dress down when working at home. Additionally, during video calls some workers only bother wearing smart attire on the visible parts of their body. But it’s important to remember, even when working from home, you’re there as a professional to do work. It’s hard to feel quite as professional while working in a set of pajamas. And when you don’t feel professional it’s easier to avoid being professional.
Something as simple as putting on a blazer or a tie can make you feel ready to work. On the other hand though, being comfortable is one of the biggest benefits of working remotely. So what’s the simplest solution to balance both of these problems?
