With the rise of the internet more and more jobs are going online.
Why do you need to sit around a table with colleagues when sending an email is just as quick?
Tasking employees to work remotely is one of the easiest ways some businesses can cut their overheads. Plus, employees save time and energy by cutting their commutes out of the day.
In a Gallup poll released in February, it was discovered that 43 percent of Americans work from home at least some of the time. In the UK, around 1.5m people work from home exclusively, according to the Trade Union’s Congress.
Basically, there are a huge number of benefits to working from home.
Still, one big downside of working from home is that it can be tricky to get into a productive state of mind. If nothing else, being in an office cuts out all other distractions.

By GlobalDataDistractions when working from home:
A recent study conducted by home insurer Together Mutual Insurance found that half of Britons who work from home (40%) spend their remote working hours doing personal tasks. Of that 40% those who took the survey admitted being distracted most often by the following things:
- Doing household chores: 64%
- Chatting to friends and family at home: 64%
- Running personal errands: 60%
Jon Craven, CEO of Together Mutual Insurance said: “With the average Brit working from home 13-days a year, companies are having to accommodate for this with equipment and remote-working friendly IT systems. Our findings highlighted that the average person needs £2,097 worth of technology in order to work remotely and with 40% of people claiming to get distracted during work hours, it begs the question as to how beneficial remote working is for British businesses.”
Dressing for working from home:
The same study also found that 53% of men and 61% of women in Britain dress down when working at home. Additionally, during video calls some workers only bother wearing smart attire on the visible parts of their body. But it’s important to remember, even when working from home, you’re there as a professional to do work. It’s hard to feel quite as professional while working in a set of pajamas. And when you don’t feel professional it’s easier to avoid being professional.
Something as simple as putting on a blazer or a tie can make you feel ready to work. On the other hand though, being comfortable is one of the biggest benefits of working remotely. So what’s the simplest solution to balance both of these problems?
Well, more and more businesses are popping up selling attire designed specifically for the people who work from home.
We’ve picked out a few of the best and most fashionable items of working-from-home couture available. These working from home ideas will definitely help you get your wardrobe in order. If you know anyone who works from home, these are probably going to be on their Christmas list!
Working from home ideas for your wardrobe
Bown Of London gown
Bown Of London have been operating since 1989 to become one of the world’s best producers of luxury bathrobes. They may have a few wacky designs, but by and large, their gowns are professional, smart and comfortable. As winter draws in you might feel more comfortable wearing a bathrobe, but they have lightweight cotton gowns on offer for warmer months too. In addition, you can get all their robes embroided with your name or position for an extra professional look.
I spoke to Michele Bourne from Bown Of London to ask what made their robes so much better than any other. She replied:
“Our gowns are made from Egyptian luxury pile velour and high-quality crease-resistant cotton. We want you to sink into another world when you slip into one of our gowns; a comfier, softer and altogether, better world. If you don’t feel entirely pampered, then we have failed in our objective. Our velour is always at least 400Gsm – that’s 400 grams per square metre – the higher it is, the better quality and longer lasting the material will be.
“Just because you work from home, doesn’t mean to don’t still deserve to be well dressed if you want to – our gowns have a luxury feel about them, after all – luxury isn’t how much you spend or how you think something will improve your image, luxury is a feeling.”
For summer months, we particularly like the Hatton Wine design for £54.95:
Or, if you’re looking for something a little warmer as winter sets in, our pick would be Tartan Denim for £84.95:

Mahabis slippers:
To be fair, slippers are coming to offices around the world as well as people embrace comfort in the workplace. Still, if you’re working from home, Mahabis slippers should be your first port of call. The slippers are uber-comfortable and come with colourful slip-on/slip-off soles. If you’re just working from your home office then you can probably do without the sole. But if you need to pop out to the post office, just snap a colourful sole on and get going.
The classic Mahabis design is a grey slipper with a yellow sole, but plenty of different options are available. You could even buy multiple soles and mix and match. The classic design has a soft lambswool lining for comfort and warmth. There’s also a set of Luxe models with supple leather exteriors.
Suffice to say, these are a must for comfort and style. Our pick is the classic: larvik light grey slipper with a skane yellow sole, available for £79. It’s eye-catching yet refined.
Polo shirts:
Polo shirts are great. They strike the perfect balance between smart and casual. They’re comfortable enough to wear around the home and feel relaxed in, but they’re smart enough to make you feel professional. Luxury clothing retailer Farfetch have a great collection of luxury polo shirts that are comfortably casual, yet smart enough to impress if clients come over.
Our pick is this embroided long-sleeve polo from Kent & Curwen for £175. It’s a classic, simple design yet the large logo draws attention. The contrasting collar and sleeves serves fun, casual vibes.
Tom Brady Athlete Recovery Pajamas:
Okay, we made a bit of fun of working in pajamas before, but hear us out. The Tom Brady Athlete Recovery Pajamas are not normal sleepwear. Made in association with sports brand Under Armour these are tech infused pajamas designed to promote relaxation and increase blood flow. They should be perfect for helping you concentrate while you’re working.
The pajamas use a bio-ceramic print to absorb your natural body heat and transmit it back at you as far infared energy. Currently, that same energy is used for therapeutic purposes in lamps and saunas.
A long sleeve-and-leg set costs £80.36 while the short version costs £64.28.
London Sock Company Socks:
No one wants to get up and put on a pair of dirty, hole-y socks in the morning. That’s not going to help you feel professional is it? But it’s okay, because you don’t have to live like that. The London Sock Company are the name in luxury socks. These are designer socks made out of the finest materials. They’re smart, colourful, comfy, and yet always professional.

Tuft & Hill shaving equipment:
Alright, not technically an item of clothing, but a quality shave is the key to elevating any outfit from unprofessional to unstoppable. And if you’re going to have a good shave, you need top quality products. We’re seriously impressed with Tuft & Hill, a London-based shaving company who have been operating since 1805.
All their razors are top notch but the Edwardian Collection available from £155 really stands out. The dignified elegance of the design will really make you feel like a boss:
Of course, there’s more and more working-from-home fashion coming all the time. These are just a sampling of some of the best, most luxurious products out there to make you feel as professional as possible!
